The stage is set for a single-elimination contest between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Minnesota United tonight in Orlando, Fla.
The Earthquakes are considered favorites against the Loons in tonight’s quarter-final match. The winner will go on to face Orlando City on August 6.
Momentum is with the Earthquakes after an impressive 5-2 victory against Real Salt Lake on Monday. Minnesota edged out the Columbus Crew on Tuesday, with the game coming down to penalties.
Minnesota and San Jose battled back in March in what was a 5-2 decision that was dominated by the Loons.
A key in tonight’s matchup is notching the first goal. With San Jose’s illusive defense, Minnesota will want to play with a lead. The Earthquakes will look to continue their offensive production.
