The season has been cut short for San Jose State gymnastics, but its efforts this year are not going unrecognized.
The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation named six of the 12 Spartan gymnasts as 2020 All-MPSF honors.
The crisis regarding COVID-19 canceled the remaining season, leaving the Spartans competing in just nine meets.
Those scores were enough to land the program 13 recognitions from the conference.
Four of the 13 recognitions went to none other than senior Taylor Chan. She earned first team All-MPSF on vault, floor and all-around, all of which led the conference. Her fourth honor was second team recognition on bars.
This is no surprise as Chan finished her college career with 14 All-MPSF honors.
The other shining senior was Chelsey Andrada, as she was named second team on beam. Andrada was just .05 short from first team recognition.
The freshmen pulled their weight this season as three of them snagged conference recognitions.
Freshman Emma Milne was the conference’s top competitor on bars and beam, earning her first team All-MPSF in both events.
Fellow first years Cameron Kelperis and Jada Mazury each earned two second team honors. Kelperis on vault and floor and Mazury on beam and floor.
Another young honoree was sophomore Tia Gin with two recognitions. Gin earned first team in the all-around and second team on vault.
A lot of success happened within the shorter season and it is important to honor all of the hard work that was put into this year.
The future of the program is bright and the MPSF thinks so too based on their chosen gymnasts.
