San Jose State men’s golf team placed eighth at the Southwestern Intercollegiate in Westlake Village, Calif.

The Spartans tied with No. 4 ranked BYU as they shot 890.

Although SJSU was able to keep up with their competition on day one as they placed fifth, the Spartans ended up dropping by the end of the tournament.

SJSU’s top golfer was junior Bryce Wortman.

He was consistent through the three rounds as he placed ninth overall on an even-par 216.

Senior Sean Yu shot a 220 that was good enough to tie for 23rd at the end of the tournament.

His second round was his best as he shot four under par.

Freshmen Caleb Shetler and Carl Corpus aided the Spartans in their first rounds of the new year.

Shetler shot 225, which was good enough for 41st place, and Corpus tied with junior Matt Heitel for 229 at 53rd place.

This Spartans gained a lot of experience from this tournament.

SJSU competed against some of the best programs in the country. This was their worst finish to a tournament this season, but this team should come out stronger in their next invitational.

The Spartans will travel to Waikoloa, Hawaii for the Amer Ari Invitational from Thursday, Feb. 6 to Saturday, Feb. 8.
