Seneca limited to 11 points as men’s hoops drops third straight

It was one of those nights San Jose State men’s basketball will need to move on from.

For the seventh time this season, the Spartans failed to reach the 60-point mark as they fell to New Mexico at The Pit, 86-59.

SJSU guard Seneca Knight was the only Spartan to finish the game in double-digits while guards Zane Martin and Corey Manigualt both put up over 20 points for the Lobos.

The Spartans never led and were rammed with multiple New Mexico runs in both halves, including an 8-1 run to open the game. The closest the Spartans trailed was four with about five minutes left in the first half.

The Spartans never found their groove, shooting just 28 percent all night. It marked the second-worst shooting night they’ve had all year only behind the 87-39 nightmare loss they suffered to Arizona early in the year when they shot just 22 percent.

But in the second half, SJSU’s shooting percentage fell to just 23 percent (8-for-35).

The Spartans now find themselves 6-14 on the season and 2-6 in conference play with 10 games to spare.

New Mexico meanwhile, improved to a perfect 13-0 at home with the win and 16-5 overall.

The Spartans will get a shot to end their three-game skid Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. versus Air Force.
