San Jose State women’s volleyball completed its second to last road game of the season against the University of New Mexico on Thursday where they fell 3-1.
The Spartans (10-16, 5-10 MW) won their last three matches, but they were unable to top the Lobos (9-18, 4-11 MW).
With a slight lead ahead of the Spartans, the Lobos battled with a lot more kills and assists.
Junior middle blocker Ryann Thomison, outside hitter Latahevai Lousi and senior Fernanda Vido each had two kills apiece.
SJSU senior middle blocker Thaliana Grajeda and sophomore libero Sarah Smevog both recorded killer service aces.
It was freshman outside hitter Kaitlynn Biassou who had six impressive kills for the Lobos.
SJSU fell to New Mexico 25-22 in the first set.
Opening up the second set, the Lobos got out to a quick start with a 4-1 lead.
SJSU sophomore middle blocker Haylee Nelson racked up five kills during the set.
The Lobos never let the Spartans catch up as they defended their court and they won a second straight set 25-14.
Continuing to come out on top, UNM retained their lead opening up the third set.
Then the Spartans quickly jumped out to a one-point lead until both teams evened it up at 16 points.
SJSU regained their momentum leaping ahead and ended the third set with a 25-22 win.
Forcing a fourth set, the Lobos trailed behind the Spartans for the majority of the set. The Lobos took the lead late and won the fourth and final set 25-23.
UNM’s hitting percentage was .221 for the game while SJSU’s hit was .173.
The Spartans delivered 55 kills for the night compared to the Lobos who had 51.
SJSU will head to Las Vegas on Saturday for their final road game of the season to play UNLV for a 5 p.m. match up.
