Strike three.

Junior shooting guard Brian Rodriguez-Flores has announced that he will transfer from San Jose State. He joins Michael Steadman and Noah Baumann as the third Spartan to leave the program since the season ended March 13.

He told The Spear on Sunday he was “seeking out better opportunities” ahead of his senior season.

“I didn’t get enough opportunities,” Rodriguez-Flores said of his playing time at SJSU. “My teammates believed that too.”

He averaged just 8.5 minutes per game in 24 appearances and one start in his lone season for the Spartans. The junior walk-on averaged 2.3 points per game and shot 33 percent on the year.

He had a few standout performances coming off the bench, including his season-high 13 points in 17 minutes against Colorado State — all coming in the second half.

Rodriguez-Flores has great admiration for Spartan fans sticking with the team despite a rocky year.

“I love the fans,” he said. “After all the losing we went through, the fans still showed support … These fans are really loyal.”

After the third departure of the young offseason, head coach Jean Prioleau has another player to replace. With only one commit thus far, it seems as though history is repeating itself.

Next year may have to be another season of “trusting the process.”
