Softball picked up two victories on Friday in a double header, led by sophomore pitcher Caroline Bowman’s no-hitter in the first contest.
The first matchup was against University of Massachusetts Lowell (8-10) and the San Jose State (15-9) dominated the game, taking the win 5-0.
Bowman threw for her first career no-hitter with 1 strikeout and no walks given in a complete game shutout of the River Hawks.
This was only the 13th no-hitter in SJSU softball history.
The Spartans were doing everything they could with the sticks to help Bowman out all afternoon.
Freshman third baseman Alyssa Graham went 2 for 3 on the afternoon including a homerun to left in the second inning.
Junior second baseman Cassidy Clark was another key to the Spartans’ offense. Clark went 2 for 4, and she scored a run.
The second game of the back-to-back was another victory for the Spartans over Iona College (1-10) with a final score of 4-2.
It was a big game for senior first baseman Madison Aurin. Aurin threw 6 innings in the circle and also went 1 for 2 at the plate with 3 RBI’s behind another homer, this time to left center.
Sophomore shortstop Rayohna Sagapolu had a solid game as well for the Spartans.
Sagapolu went 2 for 3 at the plate, having a third of the Spartans’ total hits on her own.
It was Iona that had more hits than than SJSU but a splash of 3 runs in the 5th inning allowed the Spartans to secure the win.
The Spartans’ next game will be Saturday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. against University of the Pacific at Spartan Stadium.
