San Jose State women’s basketball dropped its eighth game in a row after a 77-48 loss to Fresno State Wednesday night.
The Spartans (1-11, 0-1 MW) started their conference schedule off to a rough start by shooting at 29.3 percent against the Bulldogs’ (8-4, 1-0 MW) 41.8 percent.
Sophomores forward Cydni Lewis and guard Megan Anderson led the Spartans with 11 and 8 points, respectively.
SJSU got off to a strong start and led 9-2 a little over half way through the first quarter. Fresno went on a 2-16 scoring run to end the first ahead of the Spartans 18-11.
After the strong start by the Spartans, the Bulldogs were 14-of-22 from the floor and sunk four three-pointers by the end of the second quarter. They carried a 44-24 lead into the third.
The Bulldogs carried their large lead throughout the third and fourth quarters and ended 29-points over the Spartans.
Fresno State had five different players who recorded double-digit points, including two who recorded 15.
The 11th loss marks the Spartans’ worst start to a season since joining the Mountain West Conference.
The Spartans hope to pick up their second win of the season as they welcome Nevada to the Event Center on Wednesday for their conference home opener.
