Coming off its worst loss since 2015, San Jose State men’s water polo looks to bounce back against Stanford University on Saturday.
The No. 17 Spartans (4-3) will face the undefeated No. 3 Cardinal (7-0) as they start an 11-match homestand at the Farm.
The previous meeting between both programs resulted in a 16-5 Stanford victory last year, with six goals coming from Ben Hallock.
Freshman Yahav Fire and the rest of the SJSU goalkeepers will have a big challenge ahead of restraining the Cardinal offense.
Entering Saturday’s match, five Cardinal players are in double-digits in scoring, with junior Bennett Williams on top at 24 goals. As a whole, the team has scored 121 times in seven matches.
As Stanford will look to capitalize against SJSU’s goalkeeping, the Spartans will look to do the same against redshirt senior Oliver Lewis.
In 26 quarters played, Lewis has recorded 85 saves while allowing 32 goals in seven matches. As a team, Stanford has given up a total of 38 goals on the season.
Junior Giacomo Lovatelli was the only Spartan to score in the team’s last match against UC Berkeley. It’ll be crucial for the Spartans to execute against a dominant Cardinal squad.
Tip off on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
