Cross country teams take a 25-mile trip to Stanford

San Jose State men’s and women’s cross country travel not far from home to compete in the Stanford Invitational.

Over 4,000 athletes will be running on the Stanford Golf Course. Men will be running an 8K while women will run a 6K.

SJSU will be going up against 26 other programs including UCLA and Stanford.

It has been nearly a month since the Spartans’ last meet, so it will be interesting to see how they rank with one of the top teams in the nation.

Junior Jennifer Sandoval continues to be the top finisher for the women’s team in every race as she finished fourth in the last meet.

Junior Jose Pina had a strong showing at the USF Invitational with his third place finish. Pina redshirted last year, so he is aiming for the best performance possible to make up for lost time.

This is the Spartans’ opportunity to show how far they’ve come in the last couple of weeks of training.

Stanford’s women’s team is ranked No. 3 nationally and the men’s are No. 4, so the Spartans keeping up with them is an accomplishment in itself.

The women will start their race at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday with the men right behind them at 10:30 a.m.
