San Jose State’s men’s golf team competed in The Goodwin, finishing 21st out of 30 teams.
Throughout the first day, junior Ivan Barahona led the team, shooting a 71 (+1) on the day.
“It was a battle out there between the wind and the rain and the high rough,” SJSU head coach John Kennaday said in a video posted to the SJSU Athletics website after the first day of The Goodwin.
Barahona tied for 48th place after the first day.
After Day Two, Barahona still led the Spartans in the standings as he finished the day in a tie for 54th place.
However, the day was highlighted by sophomore Keshav “KC” Mungali as he shot a 70 (0) to finish the day with an even par.
Mungali had four birdies and moved up 45 spots on the individual leaderboard as he finished the day in 66th place.
The team improved their overall placement amongst the 30 schools from 22nd place on day one to 19th on day two.
“We’re doing a lot of really good stuff, but it just hasn’t quite come together yet,” head coach Kennaday said in a video posted to the SJSU Athletics website after the second day of the tournament.
Day Three saw both Mungali and Barahona cap off The Goodwin in a tie for 67th place.
Junior Avinash Iyer led the day, shooting a 71 (+1) and finishing in a tie for 97th place.
“We got taught a few lessons this week,” head coach Kennaday said in a video posted to the SJSU Athletics website after the final day of the tournament. “I think we’ll make good use of the experience here in the next couple of weeks.”
The Spartans will tee off next as they will compete on April 14-16 in the 78th Western Intercollegiate presented by Titleist at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California.
