Volleyball celebrates homecoming with two home matches

Homecoming week brings two more home-conference matches for San Jose State women’s volleyball.

SJSU is 5-6 overall and going into this week looking for its first conference win.

The Spartans will go against Utah State first on Thursday. USU (2-11, 0-2 MW) is also looking for its first victory.

The Aggies defeated the Spartans 3-1 in their last meeting, so the Spartans have a chance to show improvement in this upcoming match. The Spartans have not seen a win against the Aggies since 2015.

The team will have a one day break before they welcome Boise State (9-4, 1-1 MW) to the Spartan Gym. BSU took third place in Mountain West last year and beat SJSU 3-0 in their last match.

The Broncos have beat the Spartans consistently for the past 10 years. It will be interesting to see if the Spartans can break that losing streak on Saturday.

Overall as a team, the Spartans have been raising their hitting percentages, and freshman Haylee Nelson is currently the No. 1 hitter in the Mountain West.

If SJSU keeps improving, it has a shot of seeing a win this week.

The match against Utah State begins 6 p.m. on Thursday. Then, the Spartans will return Saturday at noon to take on Boise State.
