Longmire continues to put SJSU TxF on the map, qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships

The first San Jose State female track and field athlete to make it to NCAA in the five years of  the team now exists.

She was also the Mountain West champion 2017 and 2018 in the long jump.

As only a sophomore, Destiny Longmire is NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Tournament bound — a feat no other female in SJSU history has ever accomplished.

Longmire placed third of 48 at the NCAA West preliminary tournament May 24 with a long jump score of 6.13 meters.

The score puts her 53rd of 94 long jumpers across the nation, according to TFRRS.

“I felt fast and I felt like I jumped pretty far,” Longmire said to SJSU Athletics.

In the five years that women’s track and field has existed at SJSU, no team member has advanced to the NCAA tournament.

Longmire’s competition took multiple attempts to land a spot in the tournament. Alternatively, she punched her ticket to the tournament on her first try.

“She got it done in the first jump,” said head coach Jeff Petersmeyer to SJSU Athletics. “For some reason, people weren’t jumping [well] and she put it together on her first jump.

The 6.13 meter score is one of her best long jumps. Her career best is 6.24 meters, which she earned at the 2018 Mountain West Tournament.

Now, Longmire will enter the NCAA Outdoor tournament as a two-time, Mountain West long jump champion.
