San Jose State baseball connected for 12 base hits but could only plate two across in a nine run loss to UNLV Friday night.

The Spartans (19-24, 9-12 MW) gave up more than ten runs for the 14th time this season in their loss against the Rebels (30-17, 11-11 MW).

Three multiple-run innings propelled UNLV over the Spartans.

Senior right hander Jake Swiech made his seventh start of the season and gave up six runs over four frames, including back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning by junior center fielder Kyle Isbel and senior second baseman Nick Rodriguez.

The second baseman went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and the Rebels went on to score three more runs in that inning.

In the seventh, SJSU smacked four singles in a row to score one of its two runs of the game.

Freshman Connor Konishi singled in the run and went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

An RBI single in the eighth by junior second baseman Sawyer Pittman was the only other run the Spartans scored.

Sophomore center fielder Kellen Strahm extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the fourth.

UNLV went on to score two more runs to solidify its 11-2 win over SJSU.

The Spartans look to put an end to their two-game losing streak in the second game of the series on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
