San Jose State softball took Game 1 of its last three-game series of the season against the Utah State Aggies 8-4.
The Spartans (30-15, 14-6 MW) came off a sweep last weekend and had the upper hand over Utah State, (17-29, 6-12 MW) who entered on a two-game losing streak.
Junior Madison Aurin picked up win No. 15 on the season, improving her overall record to 15-11.
Starting the first inning was senior outfielder Brittany Abacherli, who hit a double on her first at bat to allowed senior Emma Entzminger to score the first Spartan run.
Freshman outfielder Desiree Reyes snagged her first of three RBIs in the game with a two-out single later in the inning, to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
In the second, the Aggies hit a three-run home run, but the 3-2 lead would be their only lead of the game.
The next inning, junior Madison Aurin hit her 10th double of the season to lead things off. Her and sophomore Kaelin Amrein scored on wild pitches to retake the lead 4-3.
At the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans kept their defense strong and their opponents time at the plate short. Creating a wider gap, SJSU led 7-3.
Utah State picked up a run at the bottom of sixth with a homerun out to left field, making the score 7-4.
The Spartans would add an insurance run in the seventh on a Georgia Blair home run, her second of the season to put the squad up four.
Game two will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
