After winning their first match of the season at home 3-2 against Minnesota United (1-1), the San Jose Earthquakes (1-0) are on the road this weekend goes to face Sporting Kansas City (1-1).
Kansas City opened their season with a 2-0 loss against New York City FC (2-0), but enter Saturday’s match fresh off a 4-3 win over the Chicago Fire (1-1).
The Earthquakes last played on March 3, giving the squad two weeks to prepare for Kansas City.
KC has conceded five goals in two matches this season, while San Jose scored three in their home opener.
Danny Hoesen, who scored twice in the opener for the Earthquakes and also won the first Alcatel MLS Player of the week award will be someone for the KC defense to keep tabs.
Felipe Gutiérrez would be Hoesen’s equal going into this fight, though he scored twice in their last match against Chicago.
Last season, Sporting defeated the ‘Quakes 2-1 on their home pitch and ties with SJ at Avaya 0-0.
The all time history between Earthquakes and Sporting in regular season play is 24-24-8, so it should be a fun one.
The match kicks off Saturday at 5.30 p.m. at Children’s Mercy Park.
