San Jose State baseball (11-13, 2-1 MW) took control of the saddle and ran away from Santa Clara University (9-15, 0-3 WCC) in its 18-6 victory on Tuesday.
This game saw SJSU record its most runs in a game since March 7, 2023 when they had 23 against San Francisco.
The Spartans started off on fire, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings.
During that stretch, four SJSU batters hit home runs: graduate center fielder Brent Cota, freshman second baseman Peyton Rowles, senior left fielder Jake McCoy, and sophomore first baseman Rohne Klein.
Santa Clara’s pitching staff also wasn’t efficient on defense, as four different pitchers each allowed four runs.
Redshirt junior pitcher Peter Herrick checked into the game during the third inning and tossed four shutout innings, allowing only three hits and struck out four batters.
Senior right fielder Alex Fernandes and redshirt junior JC Osorio-Agard led the scoring for the Spartans with three runs each.
Cota finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and five RBIs. Klein finished 2-for-4 with two runs and a career-high four RBIs.
Rowles and senior shortstop Rocco Caballero also contributed three RBIs each. Rowles’ three RBIs would tie a career high.
In total, six different Spartans recorded at least two hits and eight Spartans scored at least one run.
“I was really happy with our offensive performance,” SJSU head coach Brad Sanfilippo said.
The Spartans’ road trip will continue with a three game conference matchup against UNLV starting at 6:05 p.m. on Friday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.
