San Jose State women’s volleyball (10-12, 5-6 MW) fell to the University of Wyoming (11-11, 7-4 MW), 3-1 in a tough matchup for the Spartans.

The Cowgirls came out strong and maintained control throughout the match, led by junior outside hitter Paige Lauterwasser, who posted a game-high 16 kills.

Wyoming’s explosive offense set the tone early, taking the first set 25-18. SJSU struggled to find rhythm in the second set, losing 25-10.

The Spartans bounced back in the third set with renewed energy, trading points with the Cowgirls in a tight battle before edging out a 26-24 win.

SJSU carried that momentum into the fourth set, keeping pace early on. Wyoming’s offense proved to be too powerful as they closed out the set 25-18.

Despite the loss, the Spartans had strong individual performances. Junior right-side hitter Lola Fonua notched up her ninth match this season with double-digit kills, finishing with 10.

Sophomore middle blocker Learden Lee also recorded her second straight double-digit kill night, providing sparks for the Spartans throughout the match.

Head coach Todd Kress speaks on the Spartans performance throughout the match.

“I was happy with our effort in set three,” Kress said, “But at that point, it was a little too late.”

The Spartans will look to bounce back as they continue their road trip, taking on the Colorado State Rams on Nov. 1 at 12 p.m. in Fort Collins, Colorado.
