San Jose State softball (13-15, 2-2 MW) survived with a 1-0 victory in the first game of a three-game series against Colorado State (11-16, 2-2 MW) .

SJSU senior pitcher Mia Reynolds guided the win for the Spartans, having a shut-out game and eight strikeouts. Reynolds is leading the team in strikeouts with 82 on the season.

“Everytime Mia is pitching for us we always wanna work really hard behind her because she’s always throwing her best game,”SJSU junior infielder Reina Zermeno said.

Zermeno also had a standout game, having the team’s lone RBI on the night. This happened after the Rams gave up an error and a bunt. Zermeno also leads the team in RBIs, scoring 19 on the season.

“Reina is always gonna put the ball in play and give us the opportunity to score,” SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann said.

The Spartans put up an outstanding defensive performance, having no errors on the night and limiting the Rams to just two hits.

The Spartans face the Rams again at home on Saturday. The scheduled start time is 3 p.m.
