Continuing a winning streak of eight games, San Jose State Women’s Tennis (12-1, 3-0 MW) beat University of Wyoming (3-12, 0-3) 4-0 on Friday.

The Spartans took the double points and three single matches against the Cowboys.

“It is a team sport at the end and we have to get two out of three to get the point,” SJSU head coach Chad Skorupka said. “It was good not to play that tiebreaker.”

The Spartans were able to finish first with double partners freshmen Soledad Fayos and Emma Fantousis, 6-0.

However, Cheuk Ying Shek and Carla Urchoeguia lost their match 6-0.

Clinching the doubles points against Wyoming 7-5 was doubles partners senior Olaya Bances and sophomore Duru Durgun

“We have a really good friendship outside and inside of the court,” Bances said. “We talk in between points and make jokes to get the stress away.”

In singles matches, Urcheoguia finished first by 6-2 and 6-3 against opponent freshman Eugenia Ceinos

Bances won her singles matches 6-0 and 6-3. Fantousis secured her match for the Spartans in singles, 6-3 and 6-2.

This left Shek, Durgun and Fayos with unfinished matches in the third set.

“I’ve been sick, I told myself I have to just stay on the court somehow,” Durgun said. “And I survived, fought for every point.”

SJSU is scheduled to go against Colorado State at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Spartan Tennis Complex.
