SJSU Softball Suffers Frustrating Loss vs. New Mexico

San Jose State Softball was setback 5-4 on the road this afternoon against the University of New Mexico.

The Spartans now move to 7-8 in their season.

At the top of the fifth inning, SJSU was able to score twice and equalize with UNM thanks to runs by sophomores Haley Reeve and Carly Cummings.

But New Mexico fired back and scored at the bottom of the fifth, and held onto the lead. 

The game was finished in the seventh inning after both sides scored only one run.

SJSU was able to score a home run at the top of the first inning courtesy of senior Aubrie Thomas, which gave them an early lead.

New Mexico responded in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs. They followed it up by scoring a singular run in the third, putting SJSU down 1-3.

Next, the Spartans face New Mexico for the third and final time 11 a.m. this Sunday in Albuquerque.
