SJSU’s men’s soccer junior midfielder, Beau Leroux was taken as the 42nd overall pick on Tuesday, in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes.
“I am super excited and grateful to be drafted by the Earthquakes,” said Leroux. “It means a lot to me, getting the opportunity to play for my hometown team.”
He looks to make a great impact on a young Earthquakes team that during the 22-23 season had the 18th youngest roster in the MLS averaging 26.4. The Earthquakes are a team on the rise with standout 20-year-old star Cade Cowell, who also plays for the United States national team.
Leroux is a homegrown talent from San Jose and will stay home to play professional soccer. Being a standout player for the Spartans in his three years. Leroux played in 43 matches, recording seven goals and three assists in his time at SJSU.
Helping lead the Spartans to a WAC Championship appearance in 2022. He was also named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s All-Far West Region Third Team and All-WAC First Team. Leroux’s 2023 season was unfortunately cut short due to an injury early on in the season and missed a majority of play.
“I feel sure he has developed into one of the best players I have ever coached. It is great to see a San Jose product play at SJSU and then move on to the Quakes,” said SJSU head coach Simon Tobin.
“I’m very happy with the three guys we were able to select today,” said Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch. Beau and Riley are also excellent, versatile players, and I’m glad they’re part of our organization.”
Leroux is the first Spartan to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft in 20 years since Frank Sanfilippo back in 2003, when he was taken in the sixth round by the Earthquakes.
