SJSU women’s basketball bounces back with a 70-53 victory over Cal State Northridge

SJSU women’s basketball(5-6) snapped a two-game losing streak in a 70-53 win over Cal State Northridge (2-7) and took one step closer to reaching .500.

The story of the game for the Spartans was second-half dominance.

At halftime, the Spartans were trailing 33-29 but they were able to flip the script starting by outscoring CSUN 17-10 in the 3rd quarter. The Spartans would then outscore CSUN 24-10 in the 4th quarter.

Sophomore guard Sabrina Ma had a great game, scoring 15 points and snagging nine total rebounds. Ma’s plus-minus rating for the game was 25.

However, the top scorer in the game for San Jose State was freshman guard Jyah LoVett. LoVett scored 17 points including shooting 3-6 from long range. With this game, LoVett added to a team leading 12.6 points per game total.

The Spartans were also able to capitalize off of CSUN’s mistakes, scoring 26 points off of turnovers compared to CSUN’s 18.

Redshirt senior center Semaj Smith once again provided some meaningful play off of the bench scoring nine points and grabbing five rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

San Jose State’s next matchup will be at St. Mary’s (4-7) who despite their record, are 4-2 at home. The game will take place at 1 p.m. on December 29.
