SJSU women’s soccer (3-6-6, 1-3-3 MW) took a tough 1-0 loss to Boise State (7-2-6, 5-1-1 MW) after allowing a goal in the final minutes of the first half.
The Spartans nearly kept the first half scoreless until Broncos junior Kenzie MacMillan broke the clean sheet in the 45’ minute on a center pass from freshman Cindy Conner.
The Spartan offense struggled to match the Broncos. Taking only 12 shots with six on goal with the home team doubling that with 25 shots and 10 of those on goal
With sophomore Bente Pernot stopping nine of them.
While on the flip side on offense sophomore Tiana Cello took two shots that were all on goal which led the team for shots on goal.
“All considering, it was a good fight from our team,” said head coach Tina Estrada. “We kept it 1-0, a goal in the last 30 seconds, that kinda crushed us.”
A strong offensive power in Boise State overpowered SJSU.
Being more physically aggressive than the Spartans finished the game with six fouls, while the Broncos finished with 17.
“Anything can happen,” said Estrada. “We move forward, we recover and we stay together as a team.”
SJSU will continue to be on the road for the weekend facing Utah State on Sunday at 11:00 p.m.
