Senior defender Josh Redfield gets hyped for the game in the pre-game huddle.
After going down 1-0 in the 11th minute, SJSU men’s soccer (3-2-3) scored 4 unanswered goals against Sacramento State (3-6).
San Jose State controlled possession in the first half, which is what head coach Simon Tobin attributes to their big win.
“We made sure that we owned the ball and controlled the game,” Tobin said. “If you do that good things will happen and today that happened in the form of four really good goals.”
Sophomore mid fielder Angel Iniguez scored the first goal of the game for the Spartans, his fourth of the year. Iniguez leads San Jose State in goals scored this season.
Many opportunities came in this game for senior forward Isaac Lomeli.
In the contest Lomeli took four shots, two of which were on goal and with one finding the back of the net in the 30th minute.
Sacramento State found itself down 3-1 at the start of the second half and they responded by controlling possessions, outshooting San Jose State 8-3. However, the Hornets were not able to get the ball past fifth year goalkeeper David Sweeney.
Sweeney had two saves on the match both of which coming in the second half. This brought his season save total up to 27.
San Jose State sealed the game in the 54th minute when sophomore forward Athony Guzman scored his first goal of the season. This score brought the game to its final score of 4-1.
The Spartans have now built up some momentum as they are outscoring their opponents 7-2 in their last two games.
