SJSU Track and Field wrapped up the regular season with another dominant showing, this time at the Fresno State Invitational.
Sophomore thrower Fabio Hessling got the Spartans on the board early with a 65.32m hammer throw for the fourth-best throw in school history and a first-place finish.
Hessling was joined on the podium by fellow sophomore thrower and recent Mountain West Athlete of the week, Bryson Smith, who took second in the event with a 62.95m throw.
After a short day-one action, the focus shifted to the busy second day of competition in which the Spartans completely took over.
The new faces on this team continue to shine as the freshman duo of Cameron Tarver and
Christopher Coats secured first-place finishes in the men’s 400m and 1600m relays.
Freshman Demaris Waters quickly matched their energy with a first-place finish in the men’s 110m hurdles clocking a time of 13.85 seconds.
The fantastic finishes continued on the women’s side, as sophomore Emilia Sjostrand took first place in the women’s long jump while setting a new school record with a 6.35m jump.
The team of Sharli’e McCuller , Gabby Spencer, Sophie Liao, Sarah Mosteller captured first on the women’s 400m relay clocking a time of 44.43 seconds establishing a new program record.
With the regular season now in the books, the focus now shifts to the two biggest events of the season with both the Mountain West Outdoor Championships and NCAA Outdoor Championships rapidly approaching.
The Spartans will have some time to prepare as they are set to travel to Clovis, Calif. for the Mountain West Outdoor Championships which begin on May 11th through the 14th.
