SJSU softball (21-25, 9-10 MW) got shutout 5-0 by Santa Clara in its only meeting of the season.

The first seven innings were uneventful run-wise as no team was able to put up a run.

Suddenly, Santa Clara (22-21, 3-6 WCC) put up a whopping five runs in the eighth inning to seal the victory for the team.

Although the Spartans finished the game without any runs, they were able to put up five hits and three errors.

The Broncos put up five runs in the last inning, nine hits and only one error throughout the game.

Graduate shortstop Allyson Ferreira and redshirt junior utility Ashley Trieweiler scored off a hit from sophomore shortstop Morgan Salmon to start off the scoring.

Salmon then scored as well as graduate first baseman Sammy Needham off a hit from redshirt senior outfielder Lauren Lahood.

The last of the Broncos to score was Lahood.

“We just didn’t find ways to score runs, it was a tough loss,” said head coach Tammy Lohmann.

The SJSU softball team will play the next series against Utah State (15-23, 6-10 MW) from May 4-6.
