After winning two out of three games at UNLV, SJSU softball (21-24, 9-10 MW) heads home to take on Santa Clara University (21-21, 3-6 WCC) in a one-game matchup today at 5 p.m.

Coming into this matchup, the Spartans have won six out of their last ten games and hold the fourth spot in the Mountain West Conference ranking.

Comparably, the Broncos are riding a three game win streak, with two games resulting in shutouts against University of the Pacific.

The battle of the top Silicon Valley College features sophomore pitcher Lacie Ham (101) and redshirt pitcher Jenessa Ullegue (98), who are sitting in the third and fifth in strikeouts in the Mountain West Conference.

Further, Ullegue sits in first place in Mountain West Conference with twelve wins as pitcher.

Surprisingly, in her first collegiate season freshman infielder Reina Zermeno leads the team with seven strikeouts which is third-best in the conference.

In the West Coast Conference, Santa Clara has been enforcing their will behind redshirt junior outfielder Ashley Trierweiler who currently has a .525 batting average with seven homers.

Trierweiler’s teammate sophomore infielder Morgan Salmon‘s 31 RBIs on the season should not go unnoticed, as these two ladies collectively pose a threat.

With four regular games left, SJSU softball hope to close out its season suffering no more losses. But expect this Wednesday at 5 p.m. to be a battle between two Silicon Valley teams.
