SJSU gymnastics (10-1, 8-0 MPSF) came out as the top team in a quad-meet that featured No. 19 Southern Utah, UC Davis, and host Sacramento State after earning an event top score of 196.6 on March 3.

The Spartans have now defeated their last nine opponents and continue to dominate over their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rivals.

Junior Lauren Macpherson may have accidentally sipped some of Michael Jordan’s Space Jam water as she continues to bring the heat, notching an all-around high score of 39.550.

Macpherson earned a first-place tie on the beam after scoring a 9.950 and tied with teammate Jada Mazury on the floor with matching scores of 9.925.

The Spartans swept the competition as the only team to finish the meet with a score of 49 or higher on all events, helping them cruise to a hard-fought victory.

“First time this season we got 49-plus on every event,” Coach Joanne Bowers said after her teams quad-meet victory. “We’re so excited scoring a 196.6 and we’re coming home Sunday and hopefully pack that place out or our seniors and have an even better meet.”

As the night closed, SJSU gymnastics finished their last event on the bars where Emma Milne and Alexa Solomon etched out scores of 9.850 to secure a Spartans win.

Spartans gymnastics are riding a high but come back home to face No. 19 Southern Utah on March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Provident Credit Union Center in a head-to-head matchup.
