SJSU baseball (3-4, 1-0 MW) took its first conference win over Fresno State (5-4, 0-1 MW) today in San Jose.
Junior Dalton Bowling lifted the Spartans to victory after a two run single to center field in the bottom of eight to help the Spartans open up the game.
Junior Robert Hamchuk started off the eight inning by getting walked followed by a single from Colette. Junior Charles McAdoo would keep the momentum going with another single. Then came the hero of the game Junior Dalton Bowling with the bases loaded and one out. Bowling’s hit gave SJSU a 5-3 lead.
Spartans trailed 0-2 in the bottom of the second until senior Jack Colette hit his first home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
To the next inning we go when senior James Shimashita hit one over the fence for his first home run of the year and giving SJSU it’s first led of the game 3-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, senior Pitcher Jonathan Clark would get himself into a jam after giving up a run to Fresno State to tie up the game at 3-3. With two on and two outs, Clark would get out of the jam throwing his sixth strikeout of the game to end the inning.
Top of the seventh we go, senior Jack White comes in as a relief pitcher and pitches two strong innings. Giving up zero runs and one strikeout to hold the game at three a piece and getting the win for today game. White is now (2-1) on the year.
Top of ninth Senior Darren Jansen a Fresno native would come in the game and close it for the Spartans snapping a three game losing streak and giving SJSU its first win conference play.
Game two of the three game series will be tomorrow at 1:05 pm at Excite Ballpark in San Jose.
