San Jose State goes 0-2 at MPSF Championship

The Spartans found themselves down early to a 24-2 Stanford team that has been relentless over the course of the season. Olga Descalzi scored the first Spartan goal early in the first quarter to make it a 3-1 game.

Lior Ben David, Lauren Wooley and Clarissa Wandinger all scored for San Jose State in the second quarter, but it was not enough to compete with Stanford’s offense. The Spartans found themselves down 11-4 at halftime.

San Jose State had no answer for a Stanford team that was firing on all cylinders, and it gave up nine goals in the third quarter alone. Riley Agerbeek and Cila David scored two goals for the Spartans in the fourth quarter, but the game was out of reach.

San Jose State was 0-13 on power plays while Stanford was 6-7. Mackenzie Fischer and Hannah Constandse were the game’s leading scorers for Stanford with three goals each.

In their second game of the MPSF Championship the Spartans lost to #4 Indiana, 5-11, in a game that was more winnable than game one.

In the fourth, San Jose State gave up four goals unanswered and took their second loss of the weekend. Indian’s Izzy Mandema was the game’s leading scorer with three goals.

The Spartans finished their season 11-16 and 0-6 in conference play. Despite starting the season 6-2, San Jose State went 5-12 going into the MPSF championship.

The San Jose women’s water polo team lost to #2 Stanford, 24-6, in their first game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship.
