San Jose State men’s basketball (1-0, 0-0 MW) travels to Stanford to play the Stanford Cardinal (1-1, 0-0 MW) Monday night.
The Spartans are bouncing into the season with heat after coming out victorious against the Cal State Fullerton Titans (0-2, 0-0 MW) in a buzzer-beating shot finalizing the game at 78-76.
Senior guard Trey Smith was the lucky Spartan who managed an offensive rebound and a short-ranged jump attempting and ultimately accomplishing a game winning shot securing the win for SJSU.
This win for SJSU was also first-year coach Tim Miles 400th career win making this the perfect welcome into the Spartan community.
The Spartans will be playing the Stanford Cardinal for the first time since their 2019-2020 season on Dec. 14 because of COVID-19.
The last time SJSU and Stanford went head-to-head the Spartans fell short and could not get the ball to the hoop. Stanford pretty much controlled the game leaving SJSU scrambling to keep up down the court, ending the game 78-58.
The Cardinals will see a few familiar faces this game since the last time both teams have faced each other. Graduate student guard Caleb Simmons and Smith will be refacing Stanford, this time bringing the heat and momentum lacking from the last game.
The Spartans are coming in hot and ready to avenge themselves this season. The anticipation of this season is steadily increasing and no Spartan fan will want to miss it.
Catch SJSU play at Stanford Maples Pavilion or on the PAC-12 Network on Monday night at 8 p.m.
