San Jose State women’s volleyball went full force against New Mexico at the Spartan gym Thursday. The Spartans beat the Lobos 3-2 after a frustrating two game losing streak the week before.
This would be the only face-off the Spartans had with the Lobos this season and showed them up with a combined 61 assists, 75 digs, 69 kills and 10 aces.
The Spartans won the first two sets but stumbled in the third, allowing too many attack errors costing them the set 25-16.
After a rocky third set, SJSU picked up its offense with better rallies and executed 18 kills. The Spartans battled to stay ahead of the Lobos and continued to the final fifth round.
Junior middle blocker Haylee Nelson had a triple-double with 23 kills, 10 digs and 27 points. Senior and outside hitter Latahevai Lousi had an impressive triple-double with 16 kills, 14 digs and 20 points.
The Spartans wrapped up their 15 point final set in aggressive fashion. With a mix of kills and service aces by Nelson and freshman outside hitter Letizia Cammillucci, the Spartans beat the Lobos 15-7.
The Spartans will be back in action against San Diego State at the Spartan gym on March 27 at 2 p.m.
