Offense goes cold as Spartans fall to Mustangs

By Max Miller — Reporter

San Jose State baseball took its fourth loss of the season against Cal Poly by a score of 3-0. Unlike Game 2 of the series, the Spartan offense mustered just three hits on Saturday.

Mustangs starting pitcher Travis Weston took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before senior catcher Andrew Jurado hit a single to left-center field. Senior shortstop Ruben Mercado followed up with another single right after but unfortunately, SJSU was not able to capitalize.

Weston finished the game with eight innings pitched with seven strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

Junior Jonathan Clark got the start on the mound for the Spartans and finished with six innings pitched three earned runs and three strikeouts. Clark did his job by only allowing five hits but struggled with his command at times by walking four batters. Clark threw just 57 strikes out of 104 total pitches.

The SJSU bullpen did a nice job of keeping the Mustangs batters in check and giving the team a chance. Sophomore Trevor Ernt and Junior Keaton Chase only allowed a single hit between the two bullpen arms.

SJSU will head to San Francisco to take on San Francisco University on the road on Tuesday at 3 p.m., then the Spartans will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for a three-game series over the weekend.
