Track & field: Strong performance for runners at Stanford Invitational

San Jose State men and women’s track and field placed in over two dozen categories at Stanford this weekend for the Stanford Invitational.

In Friday’s meet SJSU placed in five out of the 12 categories. 

Junior Bryan Quintero was the highest placing Spartan with a seventh-place finish in the javelin throw reaching 140 feet. He also tied for ninth place in the men’s hammer throw with Spartan sophomore Gracious Togiai also grabbing ninth in the women’s hammer throw event. Quintero’s throw reached 163 feet while Togiai was right behind at 160 feet.

In the women’s 5000-meter junior Kai Bohannon placed 17th, and in the men’s long jump sophomore James Burbank took 12th place. 

On Saturday the Spartans placed in 20 out of the 27 categories in the day’s event. 

SJSU placed second in the women’s 400-meter relay, finishing at 46 seconds and placing second again in the women’s 1600-meter relay. The 400-meter relay team finished in third place behind UCLA and Cal. 

In the 400-meter dash the Spartans took four spots in their respective men and women’s events. Senior Daryia Greene grabbed second place in the women’s run, finishing in 54 seconds. Freshman Sarah Mosteller took sixth place in 58 seconds. 

Freshman Mehki Evans-Bey finished the men’s 400-meter dash in 47 seconds placing second. Senior Nicholas Harper’s 49 seconds was good enough to net him 10th place. 

SJSU’s top 800-meter runner was senior Xolan Brown, taking third place at 1 minute, 52 seconds. The top Spartan hurdler was senior Diamond Tabron who finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute and 3 seconds.

The Spartans will sprint into the next event April 10 for the Wildflower Invitational in Fresno.
