Tennis continues undefeated run with wins against Nevada, Fresno State

The invincible San Jose State women’s tennis team (9-0, 3-0 Mountain West) vanquished the University of Nevada (5-4, 0-3 MW) 4-0 on Saturday at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

The SJSU hosts have shown consistent wins in their single matches this season but showed signs of weakness in their past doubles matches.

However, the Spartans swept all of their doubles matches against the Wolf Pack and showed great partnership to win 3-0.

Doubles

The Spartan duo Savannah Sendar and Lara Marco Mas defeated Anastasia Luneva and Carla Del Barrio 6-2.

SJSU saw similar victories in its second and third doubles matches.

Spartan doubles partners Alba Pedrero Galindo and Tamara Culibrk defeated Nevada’s Cristina Alles Moll and Milka Genkova 6-1.

While SJSU’s Rozalina Youseva and Pereira defeated Mathilde Sarcelet and Nunez by the same score.

Singles

The SJSU women’s team won three singles matches and three remained unfinished.

Spartan freshman Jovana Babic had an easy win against Isabella Nunez 6-1, 6-0.

Marco Mas defeated Sarcelet in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, while Galindo defeated Nevada’s Anastasia Luneva in similar fashion 6-4, 6-3.

Unfinished

Youseva’s match remained unfinished against Genkova, Irena Muradyan’s match remained unfinished against Cristiana Moll Alles and Raquel Villan Pereira ended her match unfinished against Nevada’s Carla Del Barrio.

After a day’s break the victorious Spartans will host Fresno State on Saturday, April 3 at 12 p.m. in the Spartan Tennis Complex.

The SJSU team will be on the road for the six remaining matches of the 2021 season.

vs Fresno State

In a high-strung finish, San Jose State women’s tennis team (9-0, 4-0 Mountain West) stole a win against Fresno State (10-3, 3-1 MW) 4-3 Saturday at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

In a tumultuous battle against the the Spartans had a rough start to the day.

SJSU suffered a devastating 2-0 loss in the doubles matches against Fresno State.

In the first doubles match, Spartans Lara Marco Mas and Savannah Sendar lost to Fresno State’s Dalia Ahmed and Denzia Marcinkevica 6-0.

The bad luck continued in the second doubles match where SJSU’s Tamara Culibrk and Alba Pedrero Galindo crumbled 6-2 to Fresno State’s Carlotta Nonnis Marzano and Carolina Piferi.

The final match remained unfinished with Spartans Rosalinan Youseva and Raquel Villan Pereira leading 4-3 against Cristina Flaquer and A.C. Hummel.

With good luck and strong players SJSU continued its winning streak this season, winning four of it’s six singles matches against Fresno State.

The Spartans saw their first win of the day in the third singles match, where Irena Muradyan beat Fresno State’s Marcinkevica in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Pereira won the first set of her match but dropped the second before recovering to make a comeback in the third set to beat Piferi 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.

Marco Mas beat A.C Hummel of Fresno State in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Youseva defeated Bulldog Cristina Flaquer 7(7)-6(4), 7 -5.

Galindo began her match winning the first set but unfortunately lost the next two sets and the match to Dalia Ahmed 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

SJSU’s previously undefeated freshman Jovana Babic suffered her first loss of the season to Ella Husrefovic 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-4.

This is the last match for the Spartans at home this season. Next, they will travel to Logan, Utah to face Boise State University on April 10.
