San Jose State men’s golf placed 22nd overall in the 28-team The Goodwin tournament Thursday through Saturday, hosted by Stanford.
First Day:
On his tee shot on par three, junior Bryce Wortman shot a hole-in-one on the 197-yard 14th hole, the ninth of his golfing career.
Wortman hasn’t made a hole-in-one since his freshman year in 2017-18. However, the freshman year shot was just a practice round from the 175-yard second hole at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose.
Senior Sean Yu ended the first round with a 72 and sophomore Vijay Srinivasan finished with a 73.
Senior Nate Jetter and freshman Carl Corpus both had 74 at the end of the day but Jetter’s counted for the Spartans’ score.
Wortman finished the first round with a 1-over-par 71 that helped guide the Spartans to a 13th place finish, with an overall score of 290.
Second Day:
The Spartans were unable to perfect their swing in the second day, dropping down to 22nd place with a score of 588.
Wortman shot a birdie on the back nine to help balance the three bogeys that were made and ended the day as the Spartans’ top scorer.
Jetter’s 74, Corpus’ 75, Yu’s 78 and Wortman’s 1-over par 71 counted on the scoresheet for a total 298 team score on the second day.
Third Day:
Jetter finished the third round off with a 72, his lowest score of the three rounds.
Behind him was Corpus with a 73 and Yu with a 74 while both Wortman and Srinivasan scored 76’s to finish the third round.
SJSU finished the third round with a 295, and an overall team score of 883.
The Spartans will head to Santa Cruz on April 12 for the Western Intercollegiate the event will be aired on the Golf Channel with a tee time of 8:30 a.m.
