San Jose State men’s soccer player Rudi Castro has been named the Western Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The senior forward notched two assists in the Spartans’ season-opener against Dixie State — including the match-winning assist to Nicolas Brenes in the 85th minute — to secure a 2-1 win in Utah.
The San Jose native also had two shots on target in the win.
Castro is the first SJSU player to win the award since Rory Knibbs did in in August 2015.
A 2019 all-WAC selection, he led the Spartans with nine goals last season. Those nine goals were also good for second in the WAC in conference play.
Castro and the Spartans will look to keep the momentum going in their home debut Saturday against Grand Canyon University.
