Women’s tennis: Spartans cruise past Sacramento State

The San Jose State women’s tennis team (2-0) continued its winning streak Monday, taking down Sacramento State (0-5) 4-0 to win its second match of the season.

SJSU’s Jovana Babic beat Jin Yu (6-1, 6-0) to begin singles play for the teams.

Then Spartan freshman Irena Muradyan defeated Megan Tagaloa in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to expand the advantage.

Afterwards SJSU junior Alba Pedrero Galindo triumphed over Sacramento State’s Paige Alter (6-1, 6-2) in similar fashion.

Sophomore Rozalina Youseva’s match against Jayden Nielsen (6-3, 2-2) ended unfinished.

Sophomore Lara Marco Mas also remained unfinished against the Hornets’ Tsveti Yotova (6-3, 6-2).

Freshman Raquel Villan Periera defeated Sacramento Hornets’ Shauna Casey  (6-0, 6-3).

For the doubles matches Muradayan and Tamara Culibrk kicked them off by defeating Sacramento State’s Tsveti Yotova and Jin Yu (6-2).

Following that match was a similar victory for Pedrero Galindo and Marco Mas over the Hornets’ Paige Alter and Shauna Casey (6-2).

Youseva and Savannah Sendar’s match against Jayden Nielsen and Megan Tagaloa ended unfinished (4-3) after the Spartans clinched the doubles point.

The undefeated Spartans return home after a year to host the University of San Francisco on Friday.
