The final three games of the San Jose State men’s basketball season have been canceled, the team announced Wednesday.
Citing “COVID-19 concerns within the program,” the team’s away series against Wyoming and make-up game against Nevada will not be played.
The cancellations cap off a season that has been marred with virus-related difficulties. At the beginning of the Spartans’ season Santa Clara County prohibited all contact sports, forcing the team to move to Phoenix to play the majority of their Mountain West competitions.
The Spartans’ expected homecoming Feb. 15 against Nevada was postponed because of COVID issues for the Wolf Pack, now similar issues on the home side have ended the SJSU regular season prematurely.
Feb. 19 and Feb. 21 games against UNLV were the team’s first — and now only — games at the Provident Credit Union Event Center this season.
According to the announcement, the Spartans will plan to resume activities before traveling to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championship, starting Mar. 10.
