San Jose State Football’s game against Fresno State has been canceled, the Mountain West announced Thursday.
According the conference the Bulldogs are unable to compete due to COVID-19 contact tracing.
The Mountain West says the game has been declared a no contest. It has no plan to reschedule the game, which makes this the first season the game hasn’t been played since 2012 when Fresno State moved from the Western Athletic Conference to the Mountain West.
This is the fourth Mountain West football game to be canceled this season due to COVID-19 reasons.
This comes days after the Spartans’ victory over UNLV, which is dealing with virus issues of its own.
The Rebels canceled Saturday’s game against Colorado State due to “positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing.”
As of Monday, 41 of California’s 58 counties are in the purple (widespread) tier of COVID-19 spread, which is the most restrictive of the state’s four tiers.
Thursday, California governor Gavin Newsom announced a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew for all counties in the purple tier — including Santa Clara County — effective Saturday and ending Dec. 21.
