San Jose State baseball players Ruben Ibarra and Troy Viola will play in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational next month.
The tournament is hosted in College Station, Texas, and consists of six games played from June 4 to June 6.
Ibarra batted .344 with three home runs and eight RBI during the shortened baseball season. The redshirt sophomore was an all-Mountain West selection this year, and was voted by fans as the 2020 Spartan of the Year.
Viola was also an all-Mountain West pick in 2020. The senior third-baseman was one of 10 players in the conference with a perfect fielding percentage for the season. He hit for .271, with one home run and nine RBI in 17 games.
The CSBI is the first organized baseball Ibarra and Viola will play since college baseball was shut down in March. They will likely be teammates once again, as the double-elimination tournament will feature four teams determined by region.
According to the competition’s official release, all participants will be tested for COVID-19 and will continue to be monitored daily.
“From the players, coaches, umpires and broadcast team, everyone will be secured in a local hotel for the entirety of the week,” the release says.
