Marie Tuite honored as 2020 SVBJ “Woman of Influence”

San Jose State athletic director Marie Tuite has been named to the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2020 list of 100 “Women of Influence.”

Tuite played two sports at Central Michigan University and was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame after her collegiate career. She is one of 11 women that holds the position of athletic director at an NCAA Division I FBS school.

She is the first female athletic director at SJSU since the women’s and men’s programs were fused together in 1987. She was promoted to the permanent position after serving as interim athletic director two separate times.

Tuite is also the only woman that holds this position at any of the NCAA Division I FBS schools in California.

Every year, the SVBJ selects 100 women in Silicon Valley that have proved their influence within the area. 

Tuite has helped add the sports of women’s indoor and outdoor track and field in 2013, beach volleyball in 2014 as well as adding men’s water polo in 2015 and helping reinstate men’s track and field in 2018.

She also played a role in SJSU joining the Mountain West in 2013.

The SVBJ plans to hold a dinner event on October 15 to honor its’ 100 honorees of 2020.
