Efficient scoring from multiple Spartans leads to home win over Falcons

A game full of fast breaks and productive shooting ended with a 90-81 win for San Jose State men’s basketball over Air Force.

The Spartans (7-14, 3-6 MW) broke a three-game losing streak with this victory, and the Falcons (9-12, 3-6 MW) now have their own streak of three consecutive losses.

Here are three takeaways from the game.

Team basketball works

This victory for the Spartans was certainly not a one-person effort. With five players with double-digit scoring outputs and 22 total assists, it is obvious that the ball was being moved around efficiently and everyone was getting involved.

The Spartan bench was a huge factor in the win over the Falcons as well. SJSU’s bench outscored Air Force’s 41-19.

SJSU head coach Jean Prioleau reflected on his bench after the game.

“Guys aren’t afraid to come in and make something happen,” said Prioleau. “I’m proud of our guys.”

This is a promising sign for this team moving forward that they can trust practically everyone on the roster and not just the starters.

Knight is the real deal

Sophomore forward Seneca Knight has shown real improvement this season and this was evident in this matchup versus the Falcons.

He finished the game with 20 points and 9 rebounds, and shot an efficient 7-of-12 from the field as well as 2-of-5 from beyond the arch.

Knight has proven to be the go-to scorer for this squad and he continues to show why this is the case.

“I don’t really think about getting my own [points], as much as I know my scoring helps the team,” said Knight. “I just know that my teammates do a good job of finding me.”

His main issue this season has been inconsistent efficiency from game to game but in this contest, he was anything but inefficient. He was a key factor in securing the win for SJSU.

Moore looks very promising

True freshman guard Omari Moore has shown flashes of very high potential all season long, and in this game he gave another glimpse of what is to come in the future.

Moore finished the contest with 9 points and a game-high 10 assists. He displayed just how confident he is out there on the floor, even though he is only a freshman.

“It’s really exciting,” said Moore. “I just got to give credit to my teammates, they’re all out there hitting shots and making me look good.”

The ceiling is certainly high for this kid, and I would definitely keep an eye on him to become even more of an essential piece to this team.

SJSU’s next game will be versus Boise State (12-8, 4-4 MW) in Boise, ID at Taco Bell Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.
