San Jose State’s men’s golf squad tied for seventh place overall at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Marin County, led by Spartan Sean Yu, who tied individually for second to lead the Spartans during the two-day tournament this week at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.

SJSU tied for seventh at the tournament with San Diego State, shooting a 17-under par as a team to finish 273-281-281. The Spartans racked up 60 birdies over three rounds, which ranked third at the tournament. Pepperdine won the tournament at 43-under.

Yu placed second at 15-under par at 61-66-71. He set a school record in the opening round shooting 61. It was the lowest card ever in SJSU history, but that wasn’t all for Yu, as his 10-under par matched the program record (62 on a par-72). His score of 198 over three rounds is the fourth sub-200 total in program history. The 198 total is tied for the second-lowest ever by a Spartan.

SJSU had another top-40 finish when Bryce Wortman tied for 36th at 1-under par (71-70-71) for the tournament, which played Monday and Tuesday. Close behind was Caleb Shelter tying for 41st at even par (73-73-67), Parker Sisk tying for 56th at 3-over and Nate Jetter tying it up for 61st at 4-over (73-72-72).

Having played three fall tournaments and placing third in the first two and seventh with this tournament, SJSU has one more fall tournament left when they travel to Stockton Oct. 21-23 for the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.
