Taking their game on the road to Idaho, the San Jose State women’s volleyball (5-10, 0-4 MW) team took another loss away from home with a 3-1 defeat against Boise State (11-4, 3-1 MW).
SJSU continues to struggle on the defensive end, and are now trying to avoid adding another loss to their five-game losing streak.
The Spartans lost the first two sets to the Broncos, but won the third set 26-24.
The Spartans came out swinging in the third set. However, twice in that set, the Broncos were able to have five-point scoring streaks before SJSU could get a sideout.
As the teams fared close statistically, SJSU finished the match with a sideout percentage of 49, where Boise State finished with 58.3 percent.
Both teams finished with 52 digs, and kills were almost dead even; Boise State only led 51-49.
Sophomore Haylee Nelson led the Spartans with 20.5 points, 17 kills, four spikes
Nelson was a member of the Mountain West All-Star team as a freshman and was joined by teammate Sarah Smevog.
Behind Nelson was redshirt junior Latahevai Lousi, who finished the game with 12.5 points, 10 kills and four spikes.
As most teams fold when down 2-0, the Spartans have continued to show signs of life, but have come up short.
In the last five loses, they have only been shutout once.
In their last game against Utah State, they were able to push the match to five sets, but lost their 13-11 lead as the Aggies scored the next four points to win the set 15-13.
The Spartans remain on the road with their matchup on Oct. 8 at the University of Nevada at 6 p.m.
