Clubs stop swinging after SJSU’s ninth place finish in the NCAA Regionals

The Spartans continued to be consistent on the course, but fell short of prolonging their season.

Finishing in the middle of the pack at the NCAA Regional Championships in Austin, San Jose State fell 28 strokes short of advancing to the NCAA Championships.

This was the first time SJSU competed at the NCAA Regionals in the last four seasons.

The Spartans ended the first day in eighth place of 14 and then finished the next two days in ninth place.

Despite the disappointing end of the season, the consistent performers still showed out as they have all year.

Junior Sean Yu closed out the season strong as the best scorer for San Jose, placing 20th at 217 strokes.

Following close behind was senior Kevin Velo, who completed his final round for SJSU placing 29th with a score of 219.

Senior Ben Campbell would tie for 55th at 228.

The Spartans would gain more support from their two sophomores Matt Heitel and Bryce Wortman who both tied for 62nd at 232.

Even with SJSU’s season ending, there are many bright spots to this golf team looking forward to next season.

Sean Yu will be entering his final season as a Spartan and should improve even more than he did this season.

This San Jose State program has figured out how to be more consistent on the course throughout their tournaments and will look to continue this progression next season.
