San Jose State softball (37-16, MW 17-7) hosted its last home game of the season and fell to Nevada (27-25, MW 11-13), 2-1.
In honor of it being the last home game, the Spartan seniors were famed for their years spent playing on the field.
“It’s very bitter sweet and hard to know how your going to feel about it,” said Kaelin Amrein. “I’m just really thankful to have been apart of this and to have done it with them because they are really important to me.”
Spartan seniors outfielder Amrein, pitcher Madison Aurin, catcher Alyssa Avila and outfielder Kristen Heffley left the field with their legacies.
“Obviously we didn’t have the outcome that we wanted for our last game, but overall this year we had a lot of fights,” Avila said. “Overall it was a really good year, awesome time and nothing but good memories so it’s just nice to go out like that.”
Nevada senior pitcher Kali Sargent only allowed one run and three strikeouts.
The only run for SJSU came off a throwing error when senior Amrein plated junior Cassidy Clark on a bunt single in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Wolf Pack took the 2-1 lead on junior Sierra Mello’s solo shot and an RBI single from Kenzi Goins.
Freshman pitcher Jenessa Ullegue recorded the loss as she threw a complete game and only allowed two runs on eight hits.
“You don’t know it’s going to be done until you get to that point so I’m glad I cherished the four years I had here,” Aurin said.
SJSU will be looking to see if its name will be drafted for the NCAA Regional Sunday.
