Arevalo and Oon share individual title, Spartans place first at Gold Rush

Senior Abegail Arevalo and freshman Natasha Andrea Oon claimed the individual title as San Jose State women’s golf finished in first place at The Gold Rush tournament in Seal Beach, Calif.

After the final round, Arevalo and Oon finished at two-under 214 as the Spartans placed first overall at 873.

Arevalo came out on top 70-67-137 in the first two rounds, but finished the final round at 77.

Oon started the last day in fifth place with an even-par 144. She was able to shoot a two-under 70 in the end to tie Arevalo for first place in individual standings.

This was her second individual title in six collegiate tournaments played.

SJSU beat the University of Georgia by three shots for its second team title of the season.

Senior Alexandra Cooper shot eight-over 224 and finished tied for 24th place. Freshman Antonia Malate tied for 53rd at 231.

The Spartans will host the Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club, alongside with the University of San Francisco, on March 18 and 19.
