San Jose State baseball (6-2) kept up its winning momentum and defeated Saint Mary’s (4-4) 7-3 Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.
Although they didn’t put the first run on the scoreboard, the Spartans recorded 12 hits.
“As a team, we try to bring as much energy as possible,” said senior shortstop Aaron Pleschner. “After a long weekend, coming off a good win and walk-off win, we were trying to keep that momentum into today.”
With a 1-0 deficit in the third inning, freshman Brandon Peterson quickly picked up the pace for the Spartans and hit an RBI triple to right field to bring in freshman Nico Malbrough.
Pleschner followed with an RBI double and gave the Spartans the lead. He would finish the game 3-for-5.
Tied at 2, the Gaels quickly lost their energy in the sixth and seventh innings and surrendered five runs for the Spartans. It would ultimately be the game changer and clinched an SJSU victory.
SJSU pitching only allowed one walk to SMC. Mitchell Miller (1-0) was credited with the win as he gave up one hit in two scoreless innings.
“To play well on a day like this against a opponent like that differently gives me some confidence where we are on a competitive level to have a comeback win,” said head coach oach Brad Sanfilippo.
SJSU will head on the road for its first conference game of the season on Friday against the University of New Mexico.
